Arrogance That Irritates
An opinion piece criticizes the arrogance of some referees in Cyprus, arguing that this behavior is irritating and undermines the credibility of the refereeing system. The author emphasizes that the Referees Committee must take action to correct this situation, punishing referees for their mistakes and not for pressure from teams. It is pointed out that the arrogance of referees does not allow them to improve and that the lack of accountability creates a vicious cycle. The criticism concerns both the behavior of referees on the field and their selection for high-risk matches, despite their previous mistakes. The author argues that the evaluation of referees should be based on the objective assessment of their performance and not on external pressures or political expediency. Improving the quality of refereeing is considered essential to strengthen the credibility of Cypriot football.
