Asset Seizure and Coast Guard Announced in Fight Against Organized Crime

Justice Minister Kostas Fytiris announced new measures to combat organized crime, including the seizure of undocumented assets and the creation of an independent Coast Guard to prevent terrorist attacks. He emphasized the need for continuous modernization of technological means to keep pace with criminal activity. He also announced the construction of new Central Prisons with a capacity of 1,250 inmates. Responding to questions regarding Annie Alexui's allegations, the Minister stated that all related videos are being evaluated by the Attorney General's Office and the Police. However, he stressed the need for formal complaints, testimonies, and written statements to proceed with investigations and arrests. He reaffirmed the government's commitment to fighting organized crime. Mr. Fytiris acknowledged that organized crime utilizes advanced technology and that the state must have a legal framework to employ similar tools in combating it. He expressed the intention to remove any "rotten apples" from the system. Regarding the possibility of sending a delegation to Russia to take a statement from Annie Alexui, the Minister stated that the political direction is to evaluate all information, without confirming or denying the delegation's dispatch. Finally, he referred to the cases of the two mayors who were suspended, emphasizing that they are being handled by the Legal Service and the Police.
