Auditor General to Commission Experts to Audit 'Prometheus' Project

Published January 7, 2026, 16:16

The Auditor General Andreas Papakonstantinou is closely monitoring the progress of energy projects in Cyprus, such as the natural gas terminal in Vasiliko and the electricity interconnection with Greece and Israel via the Great Sea Interconnector. He is inclined to commission specialized services to audit the progress of work on the 'Prometheus' floating unit, which remains anchored in Malaysia despite initial estimates for its arrival in Cyprus by the end of December. Mr. Papakonstantinou expresses concern about the potential economic impact of the delays, as well as the increasing cost estimates for the Great Sea Interconnector, with the latest placing it in 2030. He also proposes a re-tender for the Vasiliko natural gas terminal project due to the problematic facilities.
