Bishop Tychikos' Appeal Deemed Disobedience by Cyprus Holy Synod

The Holy Synod of the Church of Cyprus considers Bishop Tychikos' appeal to civil courts as an act of disobedience. The Synod will convene in an emergency session tomorrow, Thursday, to discuss the matter, as well as potential changes to the Statutory Charter to increase flexibility in decision-making. A proposal for the election of Bishops and Metropolitans exclusively by the Synod, bypassing the involvement of the laity, will also be examined. Bishop Tychikos has already stated that he will not attend the session, while the issue of the monks of the Avvakoum Monastery, who are allegedly violating priestly orders, will also be discussed. The Synod seeks to resolve the issue and avoid the involvement of civil courts in ecclesiastical matters.
