British Bases Seek Land Expropriation for Antenna Installation in Cyprus
The British Bases in Cyprus have requested the expropriation of 340 acres of land to install 32 antennas. The request has been submitted to the relevant committee while the Cypriot government seeks to renegotiate the status of the British Bases. Local authorities are strongly reacting, with the Kouriou Municipality threatening legal action, citing potential risks to public health and the environment. The Ecologists' Movement denounces the 'colonial arbitrariness' of the British and calls on the Christodoulides government not to act as a mere observer. The expropriation and installation of the antennas are one of the issues to be discussed in the context of the renegotiation with Britain.
