British Bases Threaten Compulsory Purchase of Land for Antennas, Says Kourion Mayor
The Mayor of Kourion, Pantelis Georgiou, stated that the municipal council's decision not to allow the compulsory purchase of land for the installation of new antennas by the British Bases is unavoidable. The mayor mentioned that they will hire a constitutional lawyer to request the termination of the antenna installation and are awaiting environmental and epidemiological studies. The British are requesting the compulsory purchase of 340 scales of land for the installation of 32 new antennas, while last year they promised to remove 24 antennas, which did not happen. The British have warned that they will proceed with the compulsory purchase of the land if it is not given to them, raising concerns about further demands.
