Case Reopened After 31 Years – Justice for Victim

The Supreme Court of Cyprus has decided to send a 1995 traffic accident case back for retrial after it was initially dismissed. The victim had become a quadriplegic and lost the ability to speak as a result of the accident. The victim's wife had filed a lawsuit against the driver, as well as against the Attorney General and the Municipality of Lakatamia, arguing that the lack of lighting and pedestrian crossings contributed to the accident. The Supreme Court ruled that the lower court was wrong to dismiss the lawsuit as abusive and that the damages suffered by the victim must be examined. This decision represents justice for the victim and their family after 31 years.
