Chaos in Poland: Heavy Snowfall 'Paralyzes' Highway

Heavy snowfall in Poland caused massive traffic jams, stretching up to 20 kilometers, on a highway between the capital Warsaw and the Baltic city of Gdansk. Hundreds of drivers were stranded in their vehicles for hours in very low temperatures, but according to police, traffic is beginning to return to normal. The problem began when trucks started having difficulty on the slopes of the S7 highway, leading to a large traffic congestion. Drivers reported being stuck for more than two hours, resulting in fuel and water depletion, and difficulties in covering basic needs, such as access to toilets. Deputy Minister of Infrastructure Stanislaw Bukowiec stated that there were no injuries. Problems were also reported on the railway network and at airports, but these have been resolved. The incident highlights the difficulties that can arise during extreme weather events and the need for better coordination and preparedness of the authorities.
