Charalambidou's First Reaction After Divorce from AKEL - "I Never Expressed a Desire to Become Independent"

Eirini Charalambidou issued an extensive statement following AKEL's decision to remove her from the parliamentary group. The MP emphasized that she served political life for 15 years guided by her conscience and the interests of citizens, which caused friction and political cost. She clarifies that she never expressed a desire to become independent, but AKEL's leadership demanded answers she could not provide due to serious personal issues. Additionally, she accuses the party leadership of vague cooperation proposals without substantial development in the last five months. Charalambidou stresses that MPs are elected by preferential vote and not by lists, therefore the demand for resignation from her seat disregards the voter. She expresses regret for the references that, she claims, aim to erode her personality and polarization, stating that she will not participate in this confrontation. In her statement, the MP states that she has always put the interest of the citizen and the country first, even if it entails a political cost. She expressed her gratitude to the people of the Left and pledges to continue serving Cypriot citizens regardless of party affiliation. The decision to remove Charalambidou from AKEL's parliamentary group appears to be due to disagreements and her refusal to give answers requested by the party leadership, as well as the possibility of running in the next elections with another party, which AKEL considers unethical.
