Clarification on Photovoltaics, Subsidies, and Net Billing in Cyprus

Published January 20, 2026, 21:12

SEAPEK clarified the changes regarding photovoltaics, subsidies, and net billing, responding to the confusion that arose. According to the Association's President, Phanos Karantonis, owners of photovoltaic systems who have already proceeded with installation for self-consumption will not lose any right to participate in future subsidy schemes. The main change concerns the way excess energy is compensated. With net billing, the energy that is fed back into the grid after netting will be compensated with a monetary amount determined by each supplier. In addition, reference was made to the recent tax reform that provides incentives for energy upgrading of homes, including the installation of photovoltaic systems. Tax-paying citizens, meeting certain income criteria, can receive tax deductions of up to €10,000 for the installation of a photovoltaic system. This benefit is not a subsidy, but a tax right of citizens and is not linked to the Grant Schemes. SEAPEK aims to provide clarity on these changes so that citizens can make informed decisions.
