Close Monitoring of Crisis in Strait of Hormuz: Cypriot-Flagged Vessel Stranded – Cruises Unaffected

The government is closely monitoring the situation in the Strait of Hormuz, where a Cypriot-flagged vessel is stranded in the Arabian Gulf. Deputy Minister of Shipping Marina Hadjimanolou stated that the cruise sector in Cyprus is currently unaffected, but the impact on the supply chain will depend on the duration of the conflict. 19 ships under the Cypriot flag are operating in the Arabian Gulf, with only one awaiting departure when conditions permit. There are no coordinated proposals for escorting ships, but Cyprus is cooperating with its European partners for diplomatic solutions. The International Maritime Council is holding an emergency meeting to discuss the safety of sailors stranded in the area. Cyprus expresses its solidarity with the states of the Arabian Gulf for the attacks they have suffered. If the situation continues, there may be delays in the transport of goods, but Cyprus is not significantly dependent on these regions. The Deputy Minister stated that measures are being considered to address potential impacts on the supply chain and the energy sector.
