Conservation Works Begin at Panagia Akentous Church in Lefka

Conservation works have begun at the Panagia Akentous (Ajiendous) Church in the village of Lefka, funded by the European Union and supervised by the UNDP. The church is an important ancient monument, being the only one in the village to survive the Turkish invasion. It underwent previous conservation work in 2019, also with European funding. The name of the church, Akentous or Ajiendous, is likely connected to the Virgin Mary who 'heals pains' in the Cypriot dialect.
