Controversy Erupts Over Video Alleging Funding of Cyprus President Christodoulides

A video leaked on the X platform has sparked controversy in Cyprus, appearing to depict conversations about the funding of President Nikos Christodoulides' 2023 election campaign and potential access mechanisms to the Presidential Palace for interested investors. The video features Haralambos Charalambous, the President's Chief of Staff, former Energy Minister Giorgos Lakkotrypis, and Cyfield CEO Giorgos Chrysokhos. The conversations revolve around campaign finance limits, with Mr. Lakkotrypis mentioning the possibility of using cash to exceed them. Mr. Chrysokhos describes his close relationship with the President, while Mr. Charalambous refers to informal ways for investors to access the Presidential Palace. Mr. Lakkotrypis has filed a police complaint, claiming the video is a product of editing and manipulation. Annita Dimitriou expressed hope that the video does not reflect reality.
