Countdown for the Inauguration Ceremony of the Cypriot EU Presidency

The inauguration ceremony of the Cypriot Presidency of the Council of the European Union will take place on Wednesday, January 7, 2026, at the Main Stage of the Theatre Organization of Cyprus (THOK) in Nicosia. High-ranking officials from the European Union and international leaders, including European Council President Antonio Costa, European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen, and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, are expected to attend the event. The ceremony will begin at 6:30 pm, with guests arriving at 4:00 pm and dignitaries at 5:45 pm. It will include speeches and a multi-layered artistic performance directed by Kostas Silvestros. The performance, titled “MEMORY – PRESENT – META,” will combine various art forms, such as music, dance, theatre, poetry, and digital technologies, to tell the story of Cyprus and highlight its culture as part of European heritage. Over 100 Cypriot artists and cultural professionals will participate in the artistic performance, covering a wide range of artistic specialties. The event will be broadcast live on RIK1, RIK HD, and EBS, allowing a wider audience to follow it. Following the ceremony, the President of the Republic of Cyprus, Nikos Christodoulides, will host a formal dinner for the heads of the 14 official delegations at the Leventis Municipal Gallery. The event marks Cyprus's assumption of the Presidency and the opportunity to promote its priorities within the European Union.
