Critical Dam Levels in Cyprus Despite Recent Rainfall

Despite recent rainfall, the situation in Cyprus' dams remains critical. The rains of the last five days covered 43% of the expected hydrological reserves for January, however, the overall dam capacity is only 10.2%, significantly lower compared to 26.6% at the same period last year. The Kouris dam, the largest in Cyprus, is at 9.5% of its capacity, while other dams, such as Vizakia, Germanos and Achna, are in an even worse state. Only the Kalopanagiotis dam shows satisfactory fullness levels (84.8%). January is shaping up to be the best month of the hydrological year so far, with significant inflow of water into the dams.
