Cuba: Blackout Partially Restored

Electricity has been partially restored in western and central-eastern areas of Cuba as some power generation units have been reconnected to the grid. Cuba's national power grid collapsed yesterday, leaving approximately ten million people without electricity amid a US oil embargo that burdens the island's already outdated power generation system. The electricity company UNE reported that the power plants Dies de Octubre and Carlos Manuel de Cespedes have returned to the grid, reconnecting the western and central-eastern systems to the national grid.
