Cypriot-Flagged Ship Stranded in the Arabian Gulf

The Government is closely monitoring developments in the Strait of Hormuz, where a ship under the Cypriot flag is stranded. The Deputy Minister of Shipping, Marina Hadjimanoli, stated that the cruise sector in Cyprus does not appear to be affected, while the impact on the supply chain will depend on the duration of the conflict. It is estimated that around 1,000 ships and 20,000 sailors are in the area, of which 19 ships fly the Cypriot flag. Cyprus is cooperating with its European partners to find diplomatic solutions and is monitoring the discussions of the International Maritime Council on the safety of sailors. The Government expressed its solidarity with the countries of the Arabian Gulf for the attacks they have suffered. The Deputy Minister stated that Cyprus does not have a significant dependence on the areas of the Arabian Gulf and no major problems are expected in the supply chain. However, she warned that if the situation continues, there may be delays in the transport of goods.
