Cyprus a Magnet for Foreign Students – 'P' Research Maps Higher Education

Cyprus has become a magnet for foreign students, with the total student population in its universities almost doubling in the last decade. From 26,666 students in the academic year 2013-2014, the number reached 48,757 in 2023-2024, an increase of 83%. The increase is mainly due to the attraction of international students, who now make up the majority of the student population. Private universities absorb the largest part of the growth, while distance education has become a key pillar. The research shows that there are now 59 higher education institutions operating in Cyprus, with approximately 32,000 foreign students and 25,000 Cypriots.
