Cyprus Becomes Associate Member of the European Space Agency

The Republic of Cyprus officially became an Associate Member of the European Space Agency (ESA) on March 17, 2026, following the entry into force of the Association Agreement signed on October 23, 2025. The seven-year agreement allows Cyprus to participate in ESA's optional programs, opening new opportunities for the country's industry, research institutions, and startups in the European space sector. This transition was based on positive assessments by both ESA and the Cypriot government regarding the development of Cyprus's space ecosystem and its growing capabilities. Cyprus will participate in programs such as FutureEO, ARTES, GSTP, and ACCESS, focusing on strategic areas like Earth Observation and Telecommunications. Furthermore, ESA will implement a Requesting Party Activities (RPA) program, fully funded by Cyprus, exclusively for Cypriot entities. The program aims to strengthen the national space ecosystem and promote the participation of Cypriot companies and institutions in ESA programs. The collaboration between Cyprus and ESA began in 2017, under the Plan for European Cooperating States. The new status as an Associate Member is expected to further enhance Cyprus's capabilities in space technologies, promoting innovation, economic growth, and international collaborations.
