Cyprus Falls in Corruption Perception Index 2025

Published February 10, 2026, 09:42

Cyprus ranks 49th out of 182 countries in the 2025 Corruption Perception Index, falling three places from 2024. The country also scored 55 points, down from 56 last year. The Index, published by Transparency International, assesses perceived corruption in the public sector, examining factors such as bribery, embezzlement, nepotism, and access to information. The Index does not cover citizens' direct experiences or phenomena such as tax evasion and money laundering. Countries with the highest scores (Denmark, Finland, Singapore, etc.) are considered less corrupt, while those with the lowest (North Korea, Syria, etc.) are considered highly corrupt. The Transparency International report notes that the global order is being tested by geopolitical tensions and climate change, while a lack of leadership and independent institutions exacerbates the problem of corruption. The organization emphasizes the need for principled leaders and strong institutions to protect the public interest. The global average of the Corruption Perception Index decreased for the first time in more than a decade, indicating a general deterioration of the situation worldwide. Cyprus, while remaining in a relatively good position, faces challenges in tackling corruption, like many other countries.
