Cyprus: Foreclosures, Fear of Vote Loss and a 180-Degree Turn by DISY and DIKO

Parties in Cyprus, ahead of parliamentary elections, appear to be changing their stance on foreclosures in order to limit vote losses. Despite having previously voted down related proposals, they are now promoting a freeze on foreclosures until the end of the year, a proposal expected to be approved unanimously. DISY and DIKO in particular have made a 180-degree turn, even increasing the value of properties protected from foreclosure. Other parties are also proposing measures to protect debtors and restore access to justice. This change in position is attributed to the parties' desire to avoid losing votes and the good condition of the banking system.
