Cyprus Government Denounces Leaked Video Alleging Campaign Finance Irregularities

The Cyprus government is facing accusations regarding the financing of President Christodoulides' election campaign, as a video circulating on social media allegedly reveals opaque practices. Government Spokesman Konstantinos Letymbiotis described the video as "malicious" and a "product of montage", claiming it attempts to tarnish the image of Cyprus and the government with false claims. Former Energy Minister Giorgos Lakkotrypis confirmed contact with the "investors" appearing in the video, but protested that his statements had been edited to defame him. Sources close to the President suggest a Russian connection behind the video leak. Opposition parties, such as AKEL and DIKO, have requested explanations, while the President of DISY, Annita Demetriou, expressed hope the video does not reflect reality and called for an investigation by the authorities.
