Cyprus, Greece, and Israel will intensify their joint military exercises in the eastern Mediterranean in 2026, according to statements by the Cypriot Defense Minister, Vasilis Palmas. The exercises will include training of the armed forces, personnel development, and other forms of military cooperation. This agreement is a continuation of the increasing defense cooperation between the three countries over the past decade, which also includes collaboration in the energy sector. Mr. Palmas clarified that the agreement concerns the year 2026, while similar exercises are planned with other friendly countries such as Egypt and Jordan. He also recalled the recent joint naval exercise between Cyprus, Greece, and Egypt in late November. The strengthening of military cooperation between Cyprus, Greece, and Israel is closely monitored by Turkey, which is considered a regional rival. These exercises aim to improve the capabilities of the three armies and address common challenges in the region. The exact date of the exercises has not yet been determined and will be decided by the military staffs of the three countries, taking into account needs and conditions. This cooperation underscores the importance of regional security and stability in the eastern Mediterranean.
