Cyprus Makes a… Move… in Chess!

Cap St Georges Hotel & Resort is hosting the world chess championship, from March 28th to April 16th, 2026, where eight top chess players and eight chess players will compete for the position of challenger for the world title. The event is a continuation of the one held in Toronto in 2024. The official opening took place on March 28th with the presence of the Deputy Minister of Tourism, representatives of the diplomatic corps, and ambassadors from various countries. The Deputy Minister of Tourism highlighted the importance of the event for Cyprus as a sports tourism destination. The President of the International Chess Federation expressed his gratitude to the Cypriot government and partners for their contribution to the successful organization. The President of the Cyprus Chess Federation emphasized the development of chess in Cyprus and the support of talented young players. Representatives of Freedom Holding Corp and Cap St. Georges Hotel & Resort spoke about the importance of chess as a game that promotes friendship and respect.
