Cyprus Minister Highlights Agriculture in Trade Agreements at EU Council

The Minister of Agriculture, Rural Development and Environment, Maria Panagiotou, participated in the Agriculture and Fisheries Council (AGRIFISH) in Brussels, where issues such as the Vision for Agriculture and Food, the energy transition in the primary sector, and trade were discussed. The Minister stressed the importance of ensuring that agriculture remains at the center of trade agreements and multilateral discussions, given the difficult period faced by the primary sector due to rising production costs and an unstable global trade environment. She highlighted the need for stability and predictability in agriculture, while ensuring a balance between competitiveness and sustainability. In addition, the energy transition in the agricultural and fisheries sector was discussed, with an emphasis on reducing dependence on fossil fuels. The Minister expressed confidence that the discussion among Ministers would be productive, with the aim of addressing the challenges facing the primary sector and strengthening its resilience.
