Cyprus Scores High in Returns of Third-Country Nationals - Frontex Report

Cyprus is performing highly in the return of third-country nationals, according to a new Frontex report. The country ranks first in the increase of returns and second in absolute numbers, after Germany and ahead of other European countries such as Belgium, France, and Italy. During the first half of 2025, repatriations from Cyprus with Frontex support reached 4,230, an increase of 14% compared to the previous semester. The Frontex report states that this is one of the largest increases in the EU. Cyprus participated in 19 Frontex flights, with approximately 150 people repatriated through them, while the remaining repatriations were carried out by Cypriot authorities. The Deputy Minister of Migration and International Protection, Nikolaos Ioannidis, stated that since January 2025, nearly 12,000 people have departed from Cyprus, either through repatriations or relocations, exceeding the number for 2024. The European Commission has recognized Cyprus as the country with the most return decisions in Europe, relative to its population and GDP.
