Cyprus to Host World Chess Championship

Cyprus is hosting the World Chess Championship at the Cap St Georges Hotel & Resort, from March 28th to April 16th, 2026. The event will determine the contenders for the world title, with the participation of eight top male and eight top female chess players. The official opening ceremony took place on Saturday, March 28th, with the presence of the Deputy Minister of Tourism, representatives of the diplomatic corps, and other prominent figures. The event is expected to promote Cyprus as a destination for high-level sporting events and contribute to the development of chess in Cyprus.
