Cyprus to Officially Assume EU Presidency Today

The official ceremony for Cyprus to assume the EU Presidency will take place this afternoon, with the presence of high-ranking officials such as European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen and European Council President Antonio Costa. The event will include speeches and an artistic performance showcasing the history and culture of Cyprus. The President of the Republic, Nikos Christodoulides, described the assumption of the Presidency as a “moment of pride” for Cyprus, while acknowledging the many challenges that lie ahead. He will host a formal dinner for the heads of the 14 delegations. In addition to European leaders, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, the President of Moldova Maia Sandu, and representatives from other countries and organizations will attend the ceremony. President Christodoulides will hold joint meetings with Zelenskyy, Costa, and von der Leyen, as well as bilateral meetings with other leaders. Due to the event, there will be traffic regulations and road and parking space closures in Nicosia. The ceremony will be broadcast live on RIK1, RIK HD, and EBS.
