Cyprus has presented its Cultural Program for its 2026 Presidency of the Council of the European Union, which includes events in 31 countries. The Deputy Minister of Culture, Dr. Vasiliki Kassianidou, emphasized that culture is a central pillar of the Presidency, a conscious policy choice with strategic depth and a European footprint. The program was designed as an integral part of the overall strategy of the Presidency, with close collaboration between various stakeholders, including the Presidency Secretariat, the Departments of the Deputy Ministry of Culture, the Embassies, and the artistic community. For the first time, a unified cultural narrative has been created, connecting cultural heritage with contemporary creation and cultural diplomacy. The program is developed around five pillars: highlighting cultural heritage, promoting contemporary creation, integrating research and technologies, supporting artists, and strengthening cultural diplomacy. The goal is for Cyprus to present a polyphonic but unified cultural identity to Europe. The Inauguration Ceremony of the Presidency, titled “MEMORY – PRESENT – META” and directed by Kostas Silvestros, will take place on January 7, 2026, at the Main Stage of the Cyprus Theatre Organization, with the participation of over 100 Cypriot artists and cultural professionals.
