Delcy Rodríguez Takes the Helm in Venezuela After Maduro's Arrest

Following the arrest of Nicolás Maduro by the United States, the Supreme Court of Venezuela ordered Vice President Delcy Rodríguez to assume the powers and duties of the president. The 56-year-old Rodríguez, a lawyer and daughter of a left-wing rebel, has served as Minister of Finance, Oil, Communications, Foreign Affairs, and head of the pro-government constituent assembly. She has implemented orthodox economic policies to combat hyperinflation. Maduro referred to her as a “tiger” due to her staunch defense of the socialist government. Rodríguez stated that Venezuela will never become a colony and requested evidence regarding the health of Maduro and his wife.
