Developments for Cyprus from Starmer: Sending Destroyer and Helicopters with Drone Countermeasures – Capabilities of HMS Dragon

Keir Starmer announced the deployment of the destroyer HMS Dragon and helicopters with drone countermeasures to Cyprus, as part of the United Kingdom's efforts to strengthen its defense operations. This move comes after the decision by Greece and France to send frigates to defend Cyprus, where there are British bases of strategic importance. Starmer stated that the United Kingdom will always act in its own and its allies’ interest. HMS Dragon is an anti-air warfare destroyer capable of protecting against hostile airborne threats. The ship has advanced detection and target engagement systems, as well as helicopter support capabilities. Its crew consists of more than 200 members specializing in air defense, engineering, communications and other fields. The strengthening of Cyprus’s defense capabilities with the assistance of the United Kingdom, Greece and France is a significant move to address the increased geopolitical challenges in the region.
