Disagreement in Parliament over Referral of Equal Burden Distribution Fund Budget

The Parliamentary Committee on Refugees discussed the referral of the law regarding the budget of the Equal Burden Distribution Fund, with MPs expressing disagreements. The disagreement centers on the utilization of the undistributed amount from the 0.4% transfer fee for the benefit of refugees. The Ministry of Finance and the Legal Service disagreed with the Parliament's proposed law, arguing that the need is already covered by the existing budget and that the Parliament is interfering with matters within the competence of the executive branch, violating the Constitution. The Equal Burden Distribution Fund stated that it cannot proceed with expenditures due to the pending budget and requested solutions. MPs from AKEL and DIKO expressed the view that the funds have already been approved and should be used for the needs of the fund.
