DISY and Justice Minister Discuss Combating Organized Crime

The Minister of Justice, Kostas Fytiris, met with the President of the Democratic Rally (DISY), Annita Dimitriou, to discuss the fight against organized crime and the strengthening of citizen security. Ms. Dimitriou emphasized the need to strike at the root of organized crime and expressed her party's readiness to contribute to strengthening prevention and suppression mechanisms. During the meeting, measures such as asset forfeiture, the construction of new prisons, the surveillance bill, and the creation of a special directorate for organized crime were also discussed. In addition, Ms. Dimitriou proposed the installation of cameras in busy streets to prevent and detect criminal activity. The President of DISY stated that the safety of citizens is non-negotiable and pledged that her party will contribute legislatively and politically to restore citizens' right to feel safe. She also stressed the need to investigate all reported allegations. The meeting took place during a period of increased concern about organized crime in Cyprus, with DISY seeking to play an active role in tackling it and enhancing citizen security.
