Dozens of Dead Fish Found in Athalasassa Lake – Emergency Meeting of Authorities
An emergency meeting is underway between relevant authorities following the discovery of dozens of dead fish in Athalasassa Lake. The Department of Forests, the Department of Water Development, the Fisheries Department, the Veterinary Services, the State Chemistry and the Department of Environment are investigating the incident. Initial estimates attribute the fish deaths to a sudden increase in water levels stirring up mud from the lakebed, with no evidence of disease or pollution. Water and fish samples have been collected for laboratory analysis, while crews are working to remove the dead fish. A similar incident occurred in 2024 without affecting the ecological balance of the lake.
