Duplantis and Bonmati Crowned World's Best Athletes for 2025 by AIPS

The International Association of Sports Press (AIPS) announced the results of its annual poll for the world's best athletes for 2025. The vote involved 836 sports journalists from 121 countries, confirming the prestige of the institution. Swedish pole vaulter Armand Duplantis was named the world's best male athlete for the second consecutive year, having an outstanding season full of records. He managed to break the world record four times in 2025, reaching a total of 14 world records since 2020. He remained undefeated in 16 competitions and won his third consecutive world title. In second place in the men's poll was Spanish tennis player Carlos Alcaraz, who finished 2025 as the No. 1 in the ATP with eight titles. Third was French footballer Ousmane Dembélé, who won six trophies with Paris Saint-Germain and stood out for his individual performances. In the women's category, Spanish midfielder Aitana Bonmati was named the best athlete for the first time, having an excellent year at both club and international level. She won the Ballon d’Or and FIFA The Best awards for the third consecutive year. She was followed by Kenyan runner Beatrice Chepkoech and Belarusian tennis player Aryna Sabalenka, who finished the year as No. 1 in tennis. Paris Saint-Germain was named the best team of the year, while the FIFA Club World Cup won the award for the best press facilities. Also, the Greek Women's Water Polo National Team was nominated for the best team award, but did not make it into the top ten.
