Elephants and Power

The article refers to a series of cases where figures in Cypriot politics, such as Tassos Papadopoulos, Charis Thrasou, Dimitris Christofias, Kostas Papakostas, Nikos Anastasiades, and recently President Christodoulides, appeared to avoid taking political responsibility or apologizing for mistakes or controversial actions. These cases include the 2005 plane crash, the 2011 Mari explosion, Nikos Anastasiades' use of private planes, and recent revelations about Charalambos Charalambous and Giorgos Lakkotrypis. The author argues that a lack of accountability and political impunity are widespread phenomena in Cyprus, undermining democratic institutions and the ethics of politics.
