Emergency SMS System Activated in Cyprus - Test Run at 7 PM

The Cypriot government is activating a new SMS system for the timely and accurate information of citizens in case of emergency. The Minister of Interior, Konstantinos Ioannou, announced that the system will be operational today, with a test message being sent to all mobile phone users at 7:00 PM. The purpose of the measure is to prepare the population and take self-protection measures in case of security incidents. Citizens are urged to be vigilant and follow the instructions provided via SMS. Specifically, upon receiving a message, citizens are asked to remain calm and follow the instructions depending on their location: in a basement, in an indoor space without a basement, or outdoors. In infrastructure such as schools and hospitals, staff will implement the prescribed protocols. The government recommends avoiding travel by vehicle to these facilities and staying in safe places until further instructions are given. The new SMS sending system is an additional tool in the effort to protect citizens and ensure public safety.
