ENI: Gas Exports from 'Cronus' Possible by Late 2027

ENI and the Republic of Cyprus are in the final stages of reaching an investment decision regarding the 'Cronus' natural gas field in the Cypriot EEZ. According to ENI estimates, gas exports to Egypt could begin in late 2027 or early 2028, provided outstanding issues are resolved promptly. Guido Brusco, ENI's Chief Operating Officer, described talks with President Christodoulides as constructive and emphasized cooperation to accelerate the process. Mr. Brusco noted that ENI is known for its rapid project implementation, but the start of exports also depends on the Egyptian side. He stressed the need to finalize certain documents before making the final investment decision, while also confirming that the 2027-2028 timeline is feasible. President Christodoulides stated that Cyprus wants to complete all outstanding issues by March 30th, in anticipation of his participation in an energy forum in Egypt. He emphasized the importance of the project for Cyprus, Egypt, and Europe, as well as the readiness of the Cypriot team. President Christodoulides mentioned receiving a letter from Egyptian President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi with an invitation to participate in the Cairo forum, where the 'Cronus' project is expected to be highlighted. Mr. Sisi also invited the President of the European Commission to attend, underlining European interest in the project. The first development of fields in Cyprus' EEZ is considered very important for the country's economy and people.
