Ertugruloglu: Insists on Sovereign Equality and Equal International Status

Tahsin Ertugruloglu, the “foreign minister” of the pseudo-state, stated that there will be no backtracking from the policy of “sovereign equality and equal international status” pursued in Cyprus, a policy also supported by the “motherland, the Republic of Turkey”. During a meeting with a delegation from the Turkey-Turkish Cypriot cooperation association, Ertugruloglu stated that Turkey's position is “very clear and correct”. Ertugruloglu characterized the Cyprus issue as the “common national cause of the Turkish nation” and added that “the strength of our motherland is our strength”. These statements highlight the close relationship between the pseudo-state and Turkey. Furthermore, Ertugruloglu emphasized the importance of civil society organizations to make the voice of the Turkish Cypriots heard, as he put it. These statements come at a time of tension in relations between Greece and Turkey, and reiterate Turkey's well-known positions on the Cyprus issue.
