Escalation in Aleppo with Clashes Between Army and Kurdish Forces

Clashes have occurred between the Syrian army and the Kurdish-led Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) in areas of Aleppo, resulting in civilian casualties and the evacuation of thousands of residents. The Syrian army has issued warnings of impending attacks and has called on residents to evacuate. The SDF accuse factions linked to Damascus of threatening civilian areas and that warnings of bombing may constitute a war crime. This violence highlights the growing confrontation between Damascus and the Kurdish authorities. The Prime Minister of Kurdistan, Masrour Barzani, warned that targeting civilians and attempts to change the demographic composition of the region amount to ethnic cleansing and called on all parties to exercise restraint. The US is trying to mediate between the two sides, but talks have not yielded tangible results. The non-integration of the SDF into the Syrian army may lead to a further escalation of violence.
