EU on the Brink of Landmark Trade Deal with India

European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen is traveling to India on Sunday to finalize negotiations for a significant trade agreement between the EU and India. This agreement will create a vast free market encompassing approximately two billion people and representing a quarter of the global GDP. The remaining points of contention primarily concern tariffs on coal, as well as import duties for automobiles and steel. Spanish Foreign Minister José Manuel Albares stated that the agreement is expected to be completed in the coming days, characterizing it as a measure of security against economic coercion. He emphasized that the EU believes in free trade and has the means to protect itself from pressure. The EU-India summit is scheduled for January 27th, where the agreement is expected to be signed. The completion of the agreement is considered important for strengthening trade relations between the two regions and promoting economic growth. This agreement is expected to create significant opportunities for businesses and citizens of the EU, while also enhancing the geopolitical position of the Union.
