Europe to Issue New Guidelines on Pricing of Chinese Electric Vehicles

The European Commission and China's Ministry of Commerce have announced guidelines that could lead to the lifting of tariffs on certain Chinese electric vehicles imported into the EU, in response to tariffs imposed by former President Trump. Automotive companies will be able to voluntarily set limits on shipments and commit to minimum sales prices. In return, they may be exempted from anti-subsidy tariffs. Volkswagen has already proposed similar measures for the Cupra Tavascan. However, each agreement must be approved separately by the European Commission and EU member states. European trade officials are cautious, as setting high minimum prices could lead to cartels and higher prices for consumers.
