Farmers' Organizations Satisfied with Measures, Malas' Appointment a 'Significant Step'

Farmers' organizations have expressed satisfaction with the measures announced by the government to address the problems faced by livestock farmers due to the outbreak of foot-and-mouth disease. They believe that the nine measures represent a positive first step towards the recovery of the livestock sector, as they address problems at multiple levels and seek their rapid resolution. Specifically, they state that the measures aim at full compensation for those affected, supporting their income, and reactivating livestock production. Furthermore, the organizations welcomed the appointment of Stavros Malas as the head of the special scientific committee for the reconstruction and upgrading of the livestock sector, describing it as a significant step in the right direction. They express their intention to support the work of Mr. Malas with their active participation. In their joint announcement, PEK, EKA, Panagrotikos, New Agricultural Movement, and Euroagrotikos emphasize the need for a comprehensive and complete reconstruction of the livestock sector, which is particularly important for the primary sector. The announcement highlights that the announced measures create positive conditions for the recovery of livestock farming and provide a good basis for addressing the problems that have arisen.
