Farmers Protest Against Culling of Livestock Despite Lack of Symptoms

Approximately 30 farmers protested outside the Veterinary Services in Larnaca, reacting to the decision to cull livestock considered carriers of foot-and-mouth disease, despite the animals showing no symptoms. The farmers accuse the authorities of a lack of preventive measures and transparency, as well as arbitrariness in their decisions. They demand a suspension of the culling, written opinions, scientific measures such as quarantine and repeat tests. They point out that their animals have developed antibodies and do not constitute a source of infection. The farmers also question the suitability of the livestock zone near residential areas.
