The Minister of Finance, Makis Keravnos, met with the President of EDEK, Nikos Anastasiou, to discuss current issues affecting Cyprus, Europe, and the world. The discussion focused on non-performing loans and foreclosures, foot-and-mouth disease and government measures, and the economic impact of the war in Iran. Both sides expressed convergence in intentions and views, with the Minister of Finance thanking the President of EDEK for a study with productive proposals. EDEK raised issues concerning society, emphasizing the protection of citizens from fuel price increases and the cost of living. The need to strengthen institutions to protect citizens from foreclosures and provide immediate support to livestock farmers affected by foot-and-mouth disease was discussed, with the announcement of the approval of an initial fund for payments. EDEK assured that it would support the government in positive proposals, while exercising criticism where it disagrees.
