First Reaction to Leaked Video: Lakkootrypis Files Complaint, Claims Manipulation

Former Energy Minister Giorgos Lakkootrypis has filed a complaint with the Limassol Crime Detection Department regarding a video circulating online, depicting him in conversation with individuals presented as investors. According to Mr. Lakkootrypis, the video contains fabricated elements and references. He appears in the video alongside the Director of the President's Office, Charalambos Charalambous, and businessman Giorgos Chrysoschoos. The video, posted on an account of unknown identity, allegedly reveals 'secret' conversations concerning illegal funding and circumvention of sanctions, as well as references to the operation of the Independent Social Support Agency managed by the First Lady. AlphaNews.Live published the video with a disclaimer regarding its validity and authenticity. The post was accompanied by comments suggesting the video exposes 'shadow funds' and 'donations from tycoons in exchange for favors'. The General Secretary of AKEL, Stefanos Stefanou, was the first political leader to comment on the video, stating that it raises serious institutional and political issues to which the government must respond. The President of the Parliament, Annita Dimitriou, expressed hope that the information contained in the video does not reflect reality and expects the competent authorities to take action. Mr. Lakkootrypis is expected to make a comprehensive statement in the coming hours, and has already committed to providing additional information to the authorities.
