Forest Department Warns: Which Flowers and Plants Should Not Be Cut - Penalties

The Forest Department is warning the public about the illegal cutting and collection of wildflowers and plants, emphasizing that it poses a serious threat to the biodiversity of Cyprus. Many plant species are strictly protected, endemic, and endangered, making their protection a collective responsibility. Violators will face severe penalties, including imprisonment of up to one year or a fine of up to €5,000, or both. Uncontrolled flower picking leads to species extinction, disrupts ecological balance, and deprives future generations of their natural heritage. The Forest Department calls on the public to respect and protect the natural environment, avoid cutting or collecting plants, and report any suspicious activity to the Police or the Department itself. Protecting nature is everyone's responsibility.
