According to the Price Observatory of the Consumer Protection Service, significant price increases were recorded in fresh vegetables, sugar, and fish in December compared to the previous month. Conversely, prices fell for flour, frozen shellfish and fish, and oil. Out of a total of 45 categories of basic products, 17 categories increased, 26 decreased, and 2 remained stable (legumes and canned meat). The variation in the number of absolutely common products in seven large supermarkets increased from 228 on October 15, 2025, to 257 on November 19, 2025, decreased to 249 on December 16, 2025, and to 248 on January 15, 2026. The ranking of supermarkets in terms of prices remains consistent across all periods. The difference in the value of the most expensive and cheapest basket of products amounted to €140.98 for 248 common products on January 16, 2026, corresponding to a percentage difference of 15.1%.
