FT: Lagarde's 'Hidden' Pay - 50% Above Declared Salary

According to an analysis by the Financial Times, the total remuneration of the President of the European Central Bank (ECB), Christine Lagarde, reached approximately €726,000 in 2024, exceeding her declared base salary of €466,000 by 56%. This means Lagarde is paid almost four times more than the Chairman of the US Federal Reserve, Jerome Powell. The analysis highlights the lack of transparency at the ECB regarding compensation, as it is not subject to the strict rules applicable to listed companies. Furthermore, Lagarde receives estimated benefits in kind of €135,000 and remuneration from her participation in the Bank for International Settlements (BIS) of approximately €125,000, information not included in the ECB's annual report. MEP Fabio De Masi described it as “scandalous” that the CEO of Deutsche Bank provides more details about his pay than Ms. Lagarde. The ECB has not immediately commented on the reports.
