Georgiou on Sykas: Attack on Woman is Condemnable, but Presumption of Innocence Applies

MP Nikos Georgiou of DISY commented on the allegation of an attack on a woman by Nikos Sykas, emphasizing that the attack is condemnable, but the presumption of innocence applies. He stressed that the Legal Service has the final say on lifting parliamentary immunity, citing the precedent of Andreas Themistocleous. At the same time, he expressed the view that consultation should have taken place before the changes to police working hours, as the Police should not turn inward, especially at a time when Cyprus is presiding over the EU and organized crime is increasing. The issue will be discussed in the Legal Committee next Tuesday, with the participation of the Police leadership.
